Miller Woods
Miller Woods is a 46 acre piece of undeveloped land located near Norwell town center. The trail network consists of a great picnic area that is perfect for a couple of friends - or a large family. Miller Woods is great year-round but is perfect in the summer heat as the heavy wooded area will provide some relief from the heat. Miller Woods has remained unchanged for over 150 years.
History
According to the Norwell Conservation Society map handout, this piece of land was originally part of the 1835 historic house located at 580 Main Street owned by the Cushing family as a summer home. Florence Cushing was the last of the family to own the property when she died in 1920. In the 1930s, a Boston wool merchant (Lillian and Spencer Miller) purchased the property to acquire the stable area for their horses. In 1946, the widow Miller sold the land to the town for $70,000 after a failed attempt at subdividing the land.
Points of Interest
Great picnic area! Two sturdy big tables and a few benches for those who want some personal space.
