Ames Nowell is a 600 acre year-round day use area with most of the recreational activity centered around Cleveland Pond. The pond is very popular with boaters and fisherman. Development includes a picnic area, a large parking area that is usually open on weekends in the summer, a ballfield and about 10 miles of trails along the pond's edge and the surrounding woods. The park is part of the Massachusetts state park system and is managed by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR), an agency of the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs. Camp Wing Conservation Area protects a 450 acre, two mile stretch of stream habitat along the South River in Duxbury. Several rare or uncommon species of plants and animals are known to occur on the property. At Camp Wing, walkers, joggers, bicyclists, equestrians, cross-country skiers, and nature lovers will all discover a place to indulge their passions. Some of the trails follow old logging trails created years ago. They follow an old stone wall that used to edge pasture land and serve as a property line. This all comes to a terminus at an observation deck looking out over the abandoned cranberry bog on the eastern loop. Tubbs Meadow is a 106 acre conservation property located in Pembroke. The 2.7 mile trail network is surrounded by historic cranberry bogs. Similar to other restored cranberry bogs like Crowell Conservation in Duxbury, Tubbs Meadow offers a wonderful way to see wildlife from a different perspective. Sampson Park is a nearly 200 acre preserve in Kingston along the Jones River. There are three certified vernal pools in the park. During hunting season, walkers and dogs should wear blaze orange to stay safe. The town started to acquire this parcel of land in 1950 with 52 acres. In 1963, the town added nearly 100 acres in honor of Elizabeth Sampson. The Bay Circuit Trail runs through Sampson Park. The Silver Lake Sanctuary consists of 100 acres of land along the shores of Silver Lake. The property provides the only public access to Silver Lake in the town of Kingston. The lake is a 640 acre pond. Silver Lake is used as a water source for the City of Brockton.
