Monatiquot River – Middle Street Loop Trail
The Monatiquot River – Middle Street Loop Trail is a one-third-mile, fully ADA-compliant loop on a 6.4-acre Braintree property, built to give an easy overlook of the restored Monatiquot River. It is one of several access points to the river worth knowing -- the nearby Monatiquot River Walkway at Plain and Hancock Streets, and the short nature trail off John Mahar Highway, both offer their own views. The Monatiquot itself rises at the confluence of the Farm and Cochato Rivers on the Braintree Municipal Golf Course and flows about 5 miles before joining Smelt Brook to form the Fore River -- watch for herring here each spring.
