The Hull Land Conservation Trust works to protect the town's Weir River Estuary, where 78% of nearly 600 acres of undeveloped estuary land has been protected, guided by the town's Weir River Estuary Land Protection Plan.
History
Originally known as Nantasket, Hull was settled in 1622 and officially incorporated in 1644, named for Kingston upon Hull, England. Telegraph Hill's strategic harbor position led to Fort Independence being built there in 1776, later rebuilt as the much larger Fort Revere around 1900. By the late 19th century, Nantasket Beach had become one of New England's most popular seaside resorts.
