Landscape
Whitman's Hobart Pond, an artificial pond dating to the Colonial period, sits alongside Little Comfort Park and connects via trail to Colebrook Boulevard. The Shumatuscacant River flows about 8.8 miles through Abington and Whitman.
Conservation
The Whitman Conservation Commission manages Hobart's Pond and Harding's Pond along with other town conservation land.
History
Whitman was originally part of Old Abington. Hobart Pond was created by damming the area in the colonial era; the town's first sawmill was built there, and Isaac Hobart later built a gristmill and blast furnace/iron foundry nearby in the mid-1700s.
