Summer is here!

In the blink of an eye, we have Summer! In our last newsletter we were venting about the lack of Spring weather … and all the rain. We love the changing of the seasons but also know that just as fast as Summer shows up… it also leaves us. So, let’s all get out there and celebrate why we call the South Shore home!

In the last two weeks, we’ve had some great adventures in between tending to our gardens. While the tomato plants and sunflowers are beginning to take root, we visited with the baby pigs at Weir River Farm. Spoiler alert… they really enjoy the mud. If you haven’t checked out the Weir River Farm meat sale you should. They now have prime beef cuts (ribeye, sirloin, porterhouse), chicken, and farm fresh eggs from another Trustees Farm in Sharon. It’s every Saturday from 11am to 3 pm at the “yellow house”.

Enjoy your fresh air and fun adventures!

P.s. Our most popular posts recently were on the Pratt Trails and Great Brewster Woods. Have you been yet?

Spotlight: Rexhame Beach in Marshfield

With the transition to Summer, we find ourselves running to the ocean to cool off and spend time with friends and family… and in that vein we wanted to call out Rexhame Beach. Rexhame is the perfect place to spend a Summer evening.  Like most town trails, it is dog-friendly but only at certain hours since it’s a public beach. Come after 5pm and only pay $5 to park without a permit. Feels like a win to us. Check out this post to see a little more of the landscape and why we think it could be your new favorite quick hit.

Happy Memorial Day Weekend!

Memorial Day feels like the unofficial kickoff to warmer weather and great adventures. We like to think this is the perfect time of year to find new trails and really enjoy the changing of the seasons. Everything is a brilliant shade of green, the birds are chirping, and the grass is growing.

We would be remiss to not call out a visit to Cohasset Harbor during this long weekend. For the last 10 years, there has been an incredible display of American Flags to honor and remember those who have served and sacrificed defending our nation. You can check out the flags and then enjoy a walk at Great Brewster Woods.

Just don’t forget the bug spray! If you are looking for a recommendation, we love this all-natural bug spray made by a Scituate business. Use code “WeLoveTrails” to save 10% for a limited time.

Enjoy your fresh air and fun adventures!

This past weekend we found another local trail that is a can’t miss. It pretty much has everything you could hope for in a South Shore trail. Stonewalls criss-crossing the forest, marsh views, and a field  … just to start. If you are a kayaker, there is super easy access to the river. We like to think this site is perfect for everyone whether you are looking for some solo time or carting the whole family out for some fresh air.

Did you know that each Full Moon has a name?

The full moon this week was known as the “Flower Moon” because flowers are abundant everywhere this time of year. And… if you don’t suffer from seasonal allergies you are probably really happy. One of our Instagram friend’s found a Jack-in-the-pulpit on a walk at John Little Conservation in Marshfield!

We love seeing the blooms both inside and outside our yards. If you are still thinking about your own garden there are THREE amazing plant sales happening this weekend that can’t be missed.

One of the best parts about the South Shore Trails community has been learning about some incredible unique events – that you’ll only get on the South Shore! It is even better when an event takes you places you wouldn’t otherwise go.

Enjoy your fresh air and fun adventures!

P.S. Be sure to check out our tick safety guide and trail essentials list!

Happy Thursday!

While the weather this week is a bit rainy, we are really looking forward to this coming weekend. One of the great aspects we’ve discovered from this community is the excitement around events. So we are dedicating this newsletter to great events you just can’t miss out on this weekend.

The spring is also a great time to hit the trails and get some fresh air. We’ve pulled together some tips and tricks for being prepared and safe. Check out our “trail essentials” page to see what you might need. We can almost guarantee you don’t have bug spray yet …

It’s time to opt outside.

Spring is really here now – and we could not be more excited. The tulips are peeking out of the ground, garden planning is in full swing… and we have just about packed our puffy coats away. It’s time to get outdoors and explore some new sites. Our goal is to be your partner for fresh air and easy adventures.

Over the winter, we’ve been busy scouting out trails and writing up some field notes from our visits. So, instead of trying to park at World’s End, Whitney Thayer Woods, or Norris Reservation, we have some suggestions that may be new to you!

And before you venture out to any of these sites, please take a look at our tick safety guide. We aren’t the only ones who love the trails – the ticks do as well.

Happy Adventuring!

…give you even more fresh air and maybe some peace and quiet.

South Shore Trails

Is Spring Ever Coming?

We are almost half way through the month of March – and the weather can’t seem to make up it’s mind. One day it is 60 and then the next day we have blizzard warnings. Thankfully, our beautiful South Shore looks amazing regardless of the weather!

We’ve used all these recent snowy and blustery days to add content on SouthShoreTrails.com. What started as a simple listing of 40+ trails has grown to over 90 trails with improved content. We are hyper passionate about fresh air, fun, and easy adventures. Did you know there is a skating pond in the Cohasset woods, that cattails grow faster than corn, or wonder why Norris Reservation is super popular?

Here’s what you can expect from this newsletter:

  • Approximately every two weeks
  • Highlight interesting events in the area
  • Let you know about new site content

So please check out the site – and spread the word! We also love feedback – no point is too big or too small!

P.S. Spring begins in 5 days!
