Wildlands Trust / D.W. Field Park Initiative
Brockton's D.W. Field Park was a 1925 gift from businessman Daniel Waldo Field, and today Wildlands Trust partners with the city on a multi-million dollar initiative to restore its 650 acres of woods and water.
Landscape
D.W. Field Park spans 650 acres of fields, woodlands, and a chain of seven water bodies (all but one man-made) across northern Brockton and southern Avon.
Conservation
Wildlands Trust has partnered with the City of Brockton since 2006, and in 2022 launched the D.W. Field Park Initiative with the city and Avon to fund water quality, climate resilience, and accessibility improvements - over $4 million raised to date. The Stone Farm Conservation Area, referenced elsewhere on the site, reopened in 2019.
History
The park was created from a 1925 land bequest by Brockton businessman and city Park Commissioner Daniel Waldo Field, who personally supervised its construction through 1934. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000.
