The pier itself sits on the remains of an old railroad trestle, part of a bridge that carried the Duxbury and Cohasset Railroad (and later the Old Colony Railroad) across the water from 1871 to 1940 -- look across the river and you can still trace the route the trains once ran through the marsh toward the old Marshfield Hills station. Also explore Brass Kettle Conservation Area and Turkey Hill, other trails in Cohasset. Try Whitney Spur Rail Trail for a similar trail experience featuring wetland.
