Two Mile Farm

Marshfield

Parking available Scenic views

Two Mile Farm and Jose Carreiro Woods are two conservation sites directly next to each other in Marshfield off Union Street. While Two Mile Farm is a Trustees of the Reservation site, the Carreiro Woods are affiliated with the town of Marshfield. Although the Union Street entrance is easy to miss, this location is a great place to visit with a dog, friends or by yourself. When you combine the two trail networks, you can customize a walk ranging 1/2 mile to 2 miles.

History

Copied from the Trustees of the Reservation

Founded in 1640 by the Hatch family, Two Mile Farm gets its name from rights granted to the Town of Scituate (whose boundaries encompassed Two Mile Farm until 1788) to harvest salt hay “two miles along the river and half a mile inland on each side.” Trails pass through a white pine woodland, tracking the toppled remains of old stone walls and former farm cart paths. Each trail slopes down to the marsh’s edge to afford a view of the grassy banks of the North River and the Stetson Meadows beyond. Follow the white trail markers on the outer loop for views of the river and a dramatic change in landscape when you enter a hemlock forest. The North River has been designated a National Natural Landmark by the U.S. Department of Interior and a Scenic River by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. [Source: Trustees of the Reservation ]

Points of Interest

There are two good vista points called out on the map. I believe that the best one is in Jose Carreiro Woods near the granite honor bench. On the day we visited, there was a small family using it for snack time.
